What's new for 2021? Episode 2 - Products

We are back and thrilled to talk about more new stuff. So today, let's get to the topic most of you are waiting for; ornaments, woohoo!

With the way 2020 turned out, we were cautious about what we should buy, not knowing how this year would play out. At the market, we saw the same cautiousness with our vendors. We saw very few genuinely new themes. Most vendors tweaked their existing lines by adding new colors and textures. Others shifted the time period of a collection to reflect a more nostalgic look. This year we only have a single new theme, but it is absolutely fabulous. All other purchases fit within an existing collection. We decided to focus on ornaments since they sell the best, but we picked up a few ribbons and florals you will love. Technology is fantastic when you get plastic pinecones that look real and won't fall apart in a single season. Apply that same skill to a garland, and it will do cool stuff depending upon how you hang it.

TOP TREND
Ornament styles that reference the past are incredibly trending right now. It was clear that vendors were responding to the desire for the feelings of love and happiness of Christmas from your youth. That welcoming feeling of coming home for Christmas and the joy of being with family. The amount of nostalgic Christmas decor available this year was staggering. So, of course, we chose a broad sampling of the best items available. My favorite new additions fit into this category. I love the slightly naughty, cheeky personality and all-out fun these ornaments embody. Our unique decorations run from classic themes and colors to amusing kitsch icons, so there is something for everyone. Here are a few of my favorites:

ball ornaments with victorian writing     three glass victorian looking clip-on candles     three marshmallows on stick with faces

GOING BIG
A surprising trend for me was the colossal finial ornaments that were everywhere. I love giant ornaments and have several in our shop already. What I wasn't ready for was how the ornaments hung right at the very tips of branches. They were like giant sparkly icicles hanging on the tree. We also saw several trees with branches coming from the top of the tree with large ornaments dangling down over the tree. This look was exuberant. I loved it. We have something similar to this look already available. Click here to see our extra-large ornaments that are 6 inches and larger.

COLORS
It seems each year that a single color shoots to the top of must-haves, this year's winner is gold. This color was everywhere and in every style. Gold is a rich color that is warm and brings us back to that need for comfort this holiday season. But, gold is also opulent and luxurious, creating a feeling of wealth or abundance. So, look for new ways to incorporate this color in your Christmas decor this year. Here are a few of the items we think work well for most homes.

gold holly stem     the gold banners with victorian writing      three gold embossed heart ornaments

The color green continues to shift to minty and sage shades, with white being the favorite color paired with either of the trending green colors. Several vendors had navy blue in their collections also. I love this classic color even though it has fallen out of favor. Use navy blue to add depth to any color combination. It makes white pop, red shine, and silver and gold glow. So if you want to add a little drama to your look this year, try a bit of navy blue.

PARTY TIME
The wine-centered themes from 2020 have invited a few friends to the party. With the advent of day drinking, alcohol has blossomed into various styles for this year. My favorite is the retro-inspired style (big surprise, right?), but the most beautiful happens to be our new theme for 2021. This theme is an elegant and sophisticated collection, celebrating the rich colors of bourbon, lager, wine, and more. But when you pair it with gold tones and music motifs, this collection becomes something spectacular. This theme combines all the trends of the year in one place. We call our collection Speakeasy. Think all the sparkle of the roaring twenties, the jazzy music, and the free-flowing, albeit prohibited, alcohol. Our new collection embodies that upbeat attitude in a decidedly upscale way.

POPULAR THEMES
If you love your Christmas decor but want to stay current, here are some updates to popular decorating styles.

Woodland
Woodland themes added a fiery orange color and wood-looking carved ornaments. Several vendors also added mossy items to their woodland decor. The addition of orange adds warmth and a spark of interest to your tree. In addition, natural elements like moss and pinecones create a more natural look. Add firey orange berries and get both trends in one.

Flower Garden Shop
The red floral and garden-inspired theme switched to white for 2021. This color combination was popular with our other trending color: sage. These light flowery trees were elegant and straightforward. I loved the vendor that added white wicker baskets in the tree for extra interest.

Gnomes
Gnomes continue to trend-forward, and many vendors had several Scandinavian-inspired patterns, colors, and icons of the Christmas season. These new styles are perfect for adding to your gnomes.

Santa and Friends
Santa and elf ornaments all went retro this year. The ornaments are cheeky and exuberant, mainstays of the mid-century style. We picked up a few new looks to add to our already fun Santas and elves.

Farmhouse, Cabin, & the Rest
The remaining popular Christmas decor styles did not change much at all. Farmhouse got a shot of navy blue, which could easily translate into indigo denim in your decorating. Several cabin themes added sage green instead of the darker greens customarily seen. Vintage finishes like a bit of rust were also popular. This new combination made for some distinctive trees. Penguins made a comeback as the fun pals for snowmen decor. Nutcrackers faded away a bit this year but remained very traditional in their style.

BUT THERE'S MORE
Believe it or not, there's more. We have added the ability to bundle items together and offer a discounted price when you get the bundle. The new feature is already working on all floral stems we have. You get different discounts for the more florals you buy. Starting this week, we will begin to offer bundled items in ornaments too.

Finally, today, do you watch unboxing videos? Do you know what they are? We love them. It's almost like Christmas morning over and over. An unboxing video is when someone receives a package in the mail, and they open it on camera and share the contents with viewers. Well, we love them so much, we thought you might like to see our products as they come into our warehouse. So, we will be sharing unboxing videos on our YouTube channel starting this week. Not only are they fun, but they give you a chance to see some of the products up close and moving around. So, sign up for the newsletter or subscribe to our YouTube channel to get notified when we have a new video. Here is a sample of what you will see. This video is our first test of how an unboxing video by us could look.  What do you think? Let us know.
