Continue ShoppingThe color grey has been trendy in home decor for several years now. It is a great neutral color that can look warm and cozy, or cool and sophisticated, depending on the colors that have been mixed to make the grey. With pure grey being a mixture of just white and black, it offers all the benefits of both colors more subtly. Clean, modern, elegant, formal, and calm are only a few of the words people use to describe grey.
Since a pure grey has no additional color, it shows the actual color of the things surrounding it. It doesn't influence the way you perceive other objects. This is, in part, what makes grey so easy to decorate with. Add lighter colors, and grey will illuminate them. Add brighter colors, and grey will soften them. In the images below, the green and pink remain the exact same color, but how you see them changes depending on the background color. The grey is the most accurate reflection of color. At the same time, black makes the colors bolder, white makes the colors softer, and the colored backgrounds have varying effects.
With the enduring popularity of grey in home decorating, it is no surprise that the color is finding its' way into Christmas decorating. As a natural complement to all colors that evoke a wintery idea, grey is perfect for winter themes, snowflakes, and snowmen, and all things white or icy looking. Grey also looks excellent with wintry cardinals and forest animals. Paired with another trend, plain wood, you get a very natural feel. Red and green pop so nicely when paired with grey.
The most significant trend of the year is the farmhouse theme. Our ever-growing love of grey fits right into this powerhouse decorating style. Grey is an excellent place to start with this theme since galvanized tin is a popular material in this decor style. Add in plenty of red, black, and white to tie this style together.
At Merry Manor for 2019, we found a fun set of grey and white items with a Scandinavian look. It has matte painted wood, cozy traditional pattern knits, antiqued white ornaments, and giant string snowballs. They all have a more traditional feel and a clean, modern look. Pair these with other silver, white and grey decorations for a sleek, simple look, or add a pop of your favorite color to add some extra interest. Also, watch for the Scandinavian look to become trendy over the next few years.
Here are some fun choices from our Smoke Rise collection to help you get started with a grey theme or just to add a little to your existing Christmas decorating.
